All About Nanny

How can a Nanny help me?

Nannies offer flexible ways to help you look after your children, including:

  • Looking after your children’s well-being, providing a safe environment
  • School runs, transport and homework help for older children
  • Arranging fun and educational activities and games with one-to-one attention
  • Preparing and cooking meals for children
  • Cleaning and household duties to ensure the children’s comfort and cleanliness

There are various roles nannies perform, each offering different benefits.

Live out Nannies (or ‘daily nannies’) perform all the vital duties of a Nanny, but they do not live in your home with you. The Nanny will usually perform night-time babysitting duties on request and live a commutable distance from your home – you may find this option useful if living space is limited in your home.

Live-in Nannies stay in your house so they can get up with the children, help with getting dressed and the breakfast routine as well as babysitting duties. They can be called upon for last-minute emergencies so are a very flexible option.

Nannies can also be part-time, suiting parents who work part-time and do not need childcare services for the full week. You can discuss the working hours when you hire your Nanny.

Temporary Nannies are also available to step-in as a replacement at short notice, to cover holiday or any other short-term reason.

 What qualifications do Nannies hold?

Our Nannies come from a range of backgrounds with a variety of experience and qualifications including:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Childcare and Education
  • Level 3 Diploma in Home-based Childcare
  • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Early Years

All of our Nannies have also been fully trained in first aid and have the required skills and proven references.

How much does it cost to hire a Nanny?

The costs of Nannies vary according to the service they provide, how experienced they are and how many children they look after.

Full-time Live-in Nanny costs are typically £220 - £400 per week, but they will also live in your house and you will need to provide them with food.

Full-time Live-out Nanny costs range from £300 - £600 per week.

Part-time Nannies and temporary Nannies typically cost £8-12 per hour. Weekly costs depend on the number of hours they work.

It is important to remember that nannies are employed by you. As your employees you will need to pay PAYE tax and National Insurance contributions. This can be discussed when hiring your Nanny.

Hiring an Ofsted registered Nanny also allows you to apply for Childcare Vouchers from your employer, who will contribute towards your childcare costs.

 What hours do Nannies work?

Working hours of Nannies are usually around 10 hours a day, five days a week. Part-time Nannies can work different hours according to your needs.
